DescriptionGranby began as a railroad center serving cattle ranching and lumbering industries; it is now home to many dude ranches and golf courses. The town also is the western gateway to the Arapaho National Recreation Area and Rocky Mountain National Park.
Lake Granby, 6 miles north on US 34 within the recreation area, is an installation of the Colorado-Big Thompson project, which provides irrigation water for portions of northeastern Colorado; it's also a popular fishing spot. Granby lies at the junction of two portions of scenic highway: US 40 from Denver to Craig and US 34 north to Estes Park.
