DescriptionTucked between Lake Superior, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and the Sawtooth Mountain Range, Grand Marais (mar-AY) is the starting point of the Gunflint Trail (CR 12). This 57-mile scenic route runs northwest from North Shore Scenic Drive to Saganaga Lake at the Canadian border, traversing Superior National Forest. Popular outdoor activities in summer include camping, hiking, bicycling, canoeing, fishing, kayaking and wildlife viewing; snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing take over in winter.
