DescriptionThe power potential of the falls on the Minnesota River encouraged the settlement of Granite Falls. It is a center for both electrical power and agricultural products. As its name suggests, another natural resource is granite. Exposed granite in the river valley has been dated to the oldest era in geologic history. At an archeological site on CR 39, a half-mile east of SR 67 and US 23, historians have unearthed stone tools and bison bones more than 8,000 years old.
Each year between May and September thousands of migrating ducks and pelicans can be seen along the banks of the Minnesota River.
