Named after General Ulysses S. Grant's victory at Vicksburg, the village of Grantsburg was incorporated in 1886. One resident of notable stature was Gust Anderson, local marshal and lamplighter, who stood 7 1/2 feet tall. A wooden statue of “Big Gust” is on Pine Street.
