George Rapp and his Harmony Society set up their first communal settlement on Connoquenessing Creek in 1804. During the following 10 years about 100 members died and were buried in a little graveyard. The graves, according to custom, were not marked. This cemetery and a number of substantial brick buildings remain from the original settlement.
In 1814 the society migrated to Indiana and founded New Harmony; 10 years later they returned to Pennsylvania and established the community of Old Economy, later renamed Ambridge.
