In north-central Mississippi extending to the Tennessee border, Holly Springs National Forest covers 154,654 acres. The Puskus Lake Hiking Trail is an environmental learning trail with interpretive signs.
Chewalla Lake Hiking Trail offers nearly 4.5 miles of primitive and fairly difficult hiking. The trail takes a southern route from the recreation area and circles the lake to a point on the northeast side, where it terminates at Johnston Mill Pond. Camping, bass fishing (state license required) and picnic areas are available at 260-acre Chewalla Lake. Within the forest are more than 40 man-made lakes.
