DescriptionLenox College, originally named the Bowen Collegiate Institute, opened in Hopkinton in 1859. When the call for Union recruits came in the early days of the Civil War, all but two of the school's male students enlisted. The college became known as the “home of the schoolboy company.” Nearly a third of the Lenox volunteers lost their lives. The Civil War Monument was dedicated to them in 1865.
