DescriptionKnown to the Lakota Sioux as the Vale of the Minnekahta (hot water), Hot Springs is noted for its mineral springs and opportunities for year-round recreation. The warm mineral waters, once considered a cure for all ills, are accessible downtown. Many historic sandstone buildings, now used mostly for retail establishments, also are in the business district. Freedom Trail, along the banks of the Fall River, offers a nice stroll and a chance to see springs and a waterfall.
Scenic Skyline Drive leads to the top of Battle Mountain. Note: Due to poor road conditions, only four-wheel-drive vehicles should attempt this road. About 10 miles southeast of town is Angostura State Recreation Area, where the many amenities include a floating convenience store.
