DescriptionSportsmen and vacationers have replaced the loggers and commercial anglers who once were the vital elements of Houghton Lake. The village is the core of a year-round resort area that borders the lake of the same name. Michigan's largest inland lake, Houghton Lake is 10 miles long and 6 miles wide with a 32-mile shoreline.
Summer brings boaters and water skiers, and winter attracts snowmobilers, snowshoers, skiers and ice-skaters, but fishing knows no season. Ice fishing for bluegill, crappie and walleye is popular.
