DescriptionBilled as “Torpedo Town USA,” Keyport is home to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. The Navy chose this site in 1910 and has been developing, storing, repairing and testing torpedoes here since 1914. The small town adjoining the base was settled in 1896. Citizens picked the town's name from the New Jersey page of an atlas in the hopes that their community would become the “key port” on Liberty Bay.
