DescriptionKutztown was settled in 1771 by Pennsylvania Germans and named for founder George Kutz. An 1892 schoolhouse at White Oak and Normal avenues portrays a classroom and library of the era. On display are Keith Haring sketches, antique toys and a 1799 newspaper announcing George Washington's death. It is open Sun. 1-3, late Nov.-late Jan.; phone (610) 683-7697. Also in town is Kutztown State University.
The Kutztown Folk Festival celebrates the town's heritage with traditional food, crafts and family entertainment. The celebration begins at the Kutztown Fairgrounds the Saturday before July 4 and continues through the following Sunday; phone (888) 674-6136.
