DescriptionLike its English namesake, Liverpool is at the mouth of the Mersey River. Samuel de Champlain landed at the site in 1604, but it was not until 1759 that 70 families from Connecticut established a town.
Fort Point, at Fort Point Lighthouse Park, was built in the 1700s. One of its cairns commemorates the arrival of Champlain while another honors Liverpool's privateers. Visitors can climb the stairs of the park's 1855 lighthouse, which also houses an interpretive center.
