DescriptionSettled by veterans of the War of 1812 and land speculators from the East, Macomb was named in honor of the commanding general of the U.S. Army 1828-41, Alexander Macomb, who fought the British at Lake Champlain. Western Illinois University is on the northwest side of the city. Recreational opportunities are available at Argyle Lake State Park.
