DescriptionMadisonville is beside the Tchefuncte River, a busy 18th- and 19th-century waterway for shipping goods to New Orleans via Lake Pontchartrain. A public boat launch and Fairview-Riverside State Park within 2 miles of town provide opportunities for water sports and outdoor recreation.
Since 1973 Madisonville has hosted its own version of a Mardi Gras parade. Instead of the usual floats, however, the Krewe of Tchefuncte decorates boats that parade down the scenic Tchefuncte River the Sunday before the holiday.
