This resort community is on the shore of Little Manitou Lake. First Nations people believed that the 19-kilometre (12 mi.)-long lake's mineral waters possessed curative powers. Three times saltier than the ocean and perfectly buoyant, they allow swimmers to float effortlessly. Visitor facilities include a nine-hole golf course, spa hotel, convention center, mini-mall, tennis courts, drive-in movie theater, indoor heated mineral pool and a 234-site, full-service campground. Cross-country ski trails provide winter recreation.
Camp Easter Seal provides summer recreation for the physically impaired; visitors are welcome. At the east end of town on Hwy. 365 is Danceland, a dance hall with a horsehair-cushioned maple hardwood floor. Ballroom and square dancing to live music takes place Friday and Saturday evenings; gospel shows are presented on Sunday. Phone (866) 756-6665 for tourist information.
