DescriptionLocated along the Cedar River, the residential city of Maple Valley traces its beginnings to the late 1870s and was a logging and coal mining settlement by the turn of the 20th century. Lake Wilderness Park, 22520 S.E. 248th St., is a 117-acre regional park that includes forest and wetland habitats as well as miles of pathways. Resident wildlife includes deer, beaver, raccoons, hawks, wrens and ruffed grouse. Hikers use the Cedar River Trail, which follows the former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad right of way downstream a dozen paved miles from Maple Valley to Renton.
