Description
A handful of Acadian families who left Malpeque in 1812 founded the parish of Mont-Carmel. These settlers had to clear new land to create their village, as their ancestors were forced to do during the Acadian deportations of 1758. Many years later, in the mid-1960s, Mont-Carmel's residents used their Acadian heritage to promote tourism as a replacement for their faltering fishing trade.
