Named for Thomas Jefferson's Virginia home, Monticello is on the edge of the Manti-La Sal National Forest and 14 miles south of the southern entrance to Canyonlands National Park. The surrounding Abajo Mountains (also known as the Blue Mountains) provide many opportunities for backpacking, camping, off-road driving, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
Harts Draw Road is a 22-mile scenic drive that connects Monticello to SR 211, passing lakes and pine forests and offering views of Canyonlands National Park.
