DescriptionOne of the earliest towns along the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, Montmagny is the commercial center for a fertile valley region. Wheat fields and 18th-century villages dot the landscape south of Montmagny before giving way to hilly country crossed by rivers and snowmobile and cross-country skiing trails.
A stopping point on a natural migratory route, Montmagny plays host to thousands of snow geese in spring and fall. Known as “the Snow Goose Capital,” the city offers cultural and athletic activities during the Snow Goose Festival in October.
The Couillard-Dupuis Manor (Manoir Couillard-Dupuis), 301 boul. Taché Est, is a stone edifice built in 1789 that now houses the Accordion Museum (Musée de l'Accordéon); phone (418) 248-7927. A ferry links Montmagny with Isle-aux-Grues, which features a number of historical structures.
