DescriptionMontpelier, one of the state's oldest towns, is at the junction of US 89 and US 30N, the historic Old Oregon Trail. Brigham Young established a Mormon community and named the town for the capital of his home state, Vermont. In 1896 Butch Cassidy relieved the Bank of Montpelier of $7,000. Bear Lake resort is about 17 miles south on US 89.
