DescriptionOriginally known as Ojibway Besse, Mount Pleasant was a hunting ground for the Chippewa Indians. Magnificent pine and hardwoods destined the town to become a major lumber center. Mount Pleasant is home to Central Michigan University, founded in 1892, and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe on the Isabella Indian Reservation.
