DescriptionMunising's harbor is protected from the brunt of Lake Superior's gales by Grand Island; the town is guarded on the landward side by a ring of sharply rising hills. A number of waterfalls cascade down the slopes within the city limits. Grand Island is a national recreation area; Munising also provides access to Hiawatha National Forest and is the eastern gateway to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
The city is the eastern terminus of a scenic section of SR 28 that skirts the shore of Lake Superior to US 41 and Marquette.
