DescriptionOn the bank of the North Saskatchewan River, North Battleford is the gateway to the province's vast northwestern wilderness. Agriculture is the backbone of the area's economy; farms produce crops of cereal grains, oil seeds and hay as well as cattle, hogs, poultry and bison. Forestry, manufacturing and heavy crude oil development also are important industries.
The Battlefords Provincial Park is approximately 42 kilometres (26 mi.) north off Hwy. 4 and offers summer fishing, water skiing, boating and hiking. Cross-country skiing and ice fishing are popular winter activities.
