DescriptionSo taken was he with the view of Mount Washington from North Conway's main street that artist Benjamin Champney set up his easel in the middle of the road in August 1850 and painted the scene. Subsequently he and other artists depicted Thompson's Falls and many other nearby spots. Champney supposedly sold several of his New Hampshire landscapes to a chromolithograph company that circulated reproductions.
As the commercial center of the Mount Washington Valley recreation area, the community thrives on a year-round throng of visitors who come not only for outdoor sports and sightseeing, but also for dining, shopping and nightlife.
