DescriptionNottingham County Park offers opportunities for bicycling, cross-country skiing, fishing, hiking and horseback riding, and it is also home to Nottingham Serpentine Barrens. The 630-acre site is rare because its desert-like landscape looks nothing like the typical surroundings of Southeastern Pennsylvania. The plants you'll find here have become highly adaptive to their environment because the soil is low in nutrients and high in metals; prairie grasses and pitch pines are common. The park, 150 Park Rd., is open daily 8 a.m.-dusk.
