DescriptionThe largest town on Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor is named for the white oak trees growing in the vicinity. Many of the first settlers were Dutch. Holland Gardens in Neil Park, with its windmill and flower beds, and the Dutch windmill in Oak Harbor Beach Park are examples of the prevailing Dutch influence.
North of Oak Harbor is Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, home to the Navy's electronic warfare squadrons and the Pacific Meteorology and Oceanographic Detachment.
