DescriptionIn the 1840s it was discovered that the seat of Anderson County, Houston (not the major city of Harris County), was 2 miles off center. Literally obeying the legislature's guidelines that a county seat be at the center of the county, local residents constructed Palestine.
Pronounced “palas-teen,” the town has old-fashioned charm, with Victorian and pioneer houses dating from 1849. The business area has preserved many of its original buildings.
