This small community on the northeast edge of Mt. Hood National Forest was established in 1910 and is the southern terminus of the Mount Hood Railroad, one of the few remaining U.S. railroads operating on a switchback, permitting the train to climb the 100-foot-tall Columbia River Gorge through Hood River Valley to Parkdale.
