DescriptionAt the close of the 18th century a Captain Patterson established several plantations on Bayou Teche. The community that sprang up was named Pattersonville. The area's early planters, most of whom were English, built plantations along the bayou to the northwest. The town, its name shortened to Patterson, was for years an important lumbering center. An old sugar plantation district contains many restored homes and historic landmarks.
