Description
On US 62 about 9 mi. n.e. of Rogers, in northwest Arkansas, the 4,300-acre park was the site of the Battle of Pea Ridge, also known to the Confederacy as the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern. A reconstruction of the tavern is on the original site. Largely as a result of this battle, fought March 7-8, 1862, Union forces succeeded in securing the state of Missouri. A 7-mile self-guiding driving tour through the park provides insight into the battle. A small portion of the “Trail of Tears” also is within the park.
