DescriptionThe town was established shortly after 1811 when Abraham and Ann Pickering built a home and trading post. In 1815 it was finally given a name, Jacksonville, commemorating Andrew Jackson's defeat of British forces in the battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812; citizens changed the name to Pickerington in 1827. The 1,608 acres of Pickerington Ponds Wetlands Wildlife Refuge feature observation areas with waterfowl, shorebirds and raptors.
