Description
This fishing community on the west coast of Cape Breton Island was settled by Scottish immigrants in 1828. The town often marked its history by extraordinary events, such as the “Year of the Flour,” when flour barrels washed ashore from a floundering ship in 1874. Two other years were marked by similar good fortune—fresh butter tins and barrels of rum.
