The small Green Mountain town of Plymouth was the birthplace of Calvin Coolidge. Vice President Coolidge was at home Aug. 3, 1923, when he heard the news of President Warren G. Harding's death. His father, a notary public, administered the oath of office to him in the parlor by the light of a kerosene lamp.
