DescriptionPort Allen, across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, was named after Henry Watkins Allen, Louisiana's last Confederate governor. A scenic portion of SR 1 extends 35 miles southeast from Port Allen to Donaldsonville and the intersection with SR 70.
In early October SugarFest is held on the grounds of the West Baton Rouge Museum. Crafts and music provide the atmosphere and visitors can take plantation house tours, sugar train rides and see a working model of a sugar mill.
