DescriptionRedfield's assertion of itself as the “Pheasant Capital of the World” dates to 1908, when the first successful stocking of pheasants in the state took place; the ring-necked pheasant has been South Dakota's state bird since 1943. In east-central South Dakota, Redfield is the county seat of Spink County. Originally known as Stennett Junction, the town adopted its present name in 1881. Seven miles east on US 212 is Fisher Grove State Park.
