Rising Sun is the seat of the state's smallest county, Ohio County, 88.43 square miles. The town was named in 1816 for the impressive sunrise over the Kentucky Hills. The first steel-bladed plow was invented here in 1830 at the Clore Plow Co. The 1845 courthouse is the oldest in continuous use in the state.
