DescriptionA historical marker just southeast of Rochester on Sargent Road S.W. designates the site of Fort Henness, a U.S. Army post built on Grand Mound Prairie in 1855 to protect pioneer settlers from a perceived Native American threat. An interpretive panel describes the fort, which once housed more than 200 people. The site has chimney remains; a pioneer cemetery is on the opposite side of the road.
