DescriptionLocated on North Carolina's coastal plain, Rocky Mount was named for a large granite outcropping at the Falls of the Tar River. The surrounding area of the Falls, including the Cotton Mill building and Mill Village, dates back to the 1800s. The 3.9-mile Tar River Trail traces the banks of the Tar River; the Tar River Reservoir offers boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming and picnicking.
