DescriptionRosamond, on the western edge of the Mojave Desert, is best known as the site of Edwards Air Force Base, the birthplace of supersonic flight. The base is home to the Air Force Test Center, NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, the Air Force Rocket Research Laboratory, Propulsion Directorate and the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum. The base remains the alternate landing site for the space shuttle.
Note: Due to security concerns, public access to the base is restricted. Tours are by reservation only and must be made at least 8 days in advance. Over age 15 must present a photo ID; ages 0-4 are not permitted. Joint public tours of the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum and Air Force flight line are offered monthly; phone (661) 277-3517.
