DescriptionRupert was platted by the Bureau of Reclamation, which accounts for its business district being built around a square that is now a public park. Irrigation from dam projects on the Snake River has transformed the surrounding area from semiarid land to one of Idaho's principal agricultural areas. Potatoes and sugar beets are important crops.
Camping, picnicking, birding, hiking and other recreational opportunities are available in nearby Lake Walcott State Park.
