DescriptionLocal Native Americans dipped into the area's five mineral springs long before the 1539 arrival of Hernando de Soto, who named the springs Espiritu Santo, meaning water of the Holy Spirit. Said to possess healing powers, the water first lured health-minded visitors to the area in the mid-1800s; by the early 1900s it was being bottled and shipped around the world. Today, Safety Harbor's calling card is its spa culture.
