DescriptionOne mile northwest of San Marcos are the headwaters of the San Marcos River at Aquarena Springs. Created by the Balcones Fault, the San Marcos Springs, from which the river flows, produce 150 million gallons of ice-cold water daily. San Marcos is the input point for the Texas Water Safari, a 260-mile, nonstop canoe race to the Gulf town of Seadrift. The record for this grueling race is 29 hours, 46 minutes.
