Seaward of St. Simons Island and accessible from there by causeway, Sea Island is an all-year resort in a lush garden setting of flowering shrubs, ancient oaks, palms and pines. The private island lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the marshes of Glynn, the subject of Sidney Lanier's poem.
Sea Island has long been a favorite with heads of state. Presidents Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush all vacationed on the island. In addition to a smooth 5-mile beach and a spa, there are excellent facilities for golf, skeet shooting, horseback riding, tennis and fishing.
