DescriptionIn 1715 several ships of the Spanish fleet were lost in Sebastian Inlet during a hurricane. To this day, treasure hunters search the waters along Sebastian's coast for gold, jewelry and rare antiquities.
Skydiving and surfing are among the area's popular recreational activities. The Indian River Lagoon, the St. Sebastian River and Blue Cypress Lake are fishing hot spots and paradise for boaters. Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for more than 30 species of birds; the refuge may be viewed only by boat.
