DescriptionSmethport, first settled in 1811, quickly grew and became a thriving borough in 1853. Main Street is the Mansion District and is lined with Victorian mansions of former local barons. Hamlin Lake Park offers boating, fishing, in-line skating, swimming and tennis.
Just southwest of Smethport in Mount Jewett is Kinzua Bridge State Park , which covers 329 acres. Within the park is a visitor center as well as the Kinzua Sky Walk, a pedestrian walkway with railroad tracks built on the towers of the old Kinzua Viaduct, which upon completion in 1882 received worldwide acclaim for being the world's highest and longest railroad bridge. The Kinzua Sky Walk extends 624 feet and features an octagon-shaped overlook at the end. A section of the overlook's floor is made of glass so visitors can look down into the Kinzua Gorge.
