A mile offshore is Chantry Island, a bird sanctuary and home to one of the area's many restored lighthouses.
Each year in October residents celebrate the autumn harvest with Pumpkinfest in nearby Port Elgin. The festival features more than 40 events as well as the world weigh-off competition.
