DescriptionSt. Cloud was named after Napoleon Bonaparte's hometown in France. The fine-grained stone quarried in the region, which ranges in color from coal black to pink, has been utilized in the construction of some of the nation's finest buildings.
Saint John's Abbey and University is south of I-94 on CR 159. The Benedictine monastery and university campus, along the shore of Lake Sagatagan, features a church, library, science center and other buildings designed by Marcel Breuer. The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library, 2835 Abbey Plaza, holds a large collection of medieval documents and books. The Abbey-University Church, noted for its distinctive contemporary design, features a 112-foot bell banner.
