DescriptionOccupying a hilly site at the head of ocean-going navigation on the Yaquina River, Toledo overlooks Georgia Pacific's sprawling tidewater lumber mill. The federal government first established the mill during World War I to process Sitka spruce, an important component of early 20th-century aircraft.
Several blocks of S. Main Street feature art galleries and antique shops. The Toledo Centennial History Center, 208 S. Main St., contains pioneer displays and historical photos; phone (541) 336-1203.
