In east-central Mississippi, Tombigbee National Forest gets its name (pronounced tom-BECK-bee) from a Choctaw word meaning “coffin makers.” The 66,576-acre forest consists mainly of pine and hardwood trees. Several developed sites offer recreational facilities.
