DescriptionTruckee, named for Washoe Indian Chief Trokay, was at one time a lawless lumber and railroad town, and some of that Old West charm still survives in restored 19th-century buildings and a train that runs through the middle of town. Winter sports enthusiasts take advantage of nearby skiing and snowboarding as well as the cross-country ski and snowshoe trails at Donner Memorial State Park.
